The first game was 6 inning thriller that finished up with a 3 to 2 score. Mill Creek plated the go ahead run in the top of the 6th. The Hawks' batter hit a ball to 3B and the throw bounced off his helmet and down the right field line allowing the runner at 2B to score.
In the second game, the bulldogs jumped to a 3 run lead in the first inning off of Walker Cleveland's bases clearing line drive 2 bagger to left field. The Hawks came roaring back in the bottom of the 1st with 2 runs and added 3 more in the thrid to pad their lead. In the top of the 5th the Bulldogs rallied on Kelvin Lopez's 2 out, 3 RBI double down the right field line to take a 6 to 5 lead. But Mill Creek came back again in fine fashion with a solo homer to tie the game and then put together a couple of hits to plate the winning run. Mill Creek had shut out every opponent in the tourney unitl playing the Bulldogs.
The Bulldog hitters rewrote the record books for the State Tourney. P.J. Lunch tied the record for Tourney Homers (3). Eric Biederman tied the record for doubles in a game (3) and set a new record for doubles in the Tourney (5). Matthew Rusch set a record for most walks in the tourney (9). The Bulldogs set a team record for most walks in a tourney (57). and most Homers by a team (6). Three Bulldog pitchers combined for only the second no-hit shut out in Tourney history.
The Bulldogs finished with an overall 9-4 record, posting 5 come from behind wins and finishing 4-1 in elimination games. This team never quit beleiving it could win and played hard until the last out was made! They represented NGBSA in fine fashion, exhibiting outstanding sportsmanship, hard work, and exemplary character during the entire season. The National Division Bulldogs roster:
Davis Barlow, Eric Biederman, Justinn Burney, Walker Cleveland, Djialon Forbes, Matthew Gordon, Preston Leland, Kelvin Lopez, P.J. Lynch, Matthew Rusch, Chase Smith, and Myles Webster. Alan Clevland, Head Coach, Tom Lynch and John Barlow were the assistants. All of these boys will move up to Minors next year.
