Assessments and Season Information

Parents:

It’s hard to believe we’re gearing up to play baseball again. We’re feverishly working to get everything ready for players and the season. Below you’ll find information on assessments and the season in general.

Also, the concession stand is under new management! The park has decided to take it back over from the vendor we outsourced it to and have made a sizable investment on new equipment and supplies. Look for more information soon, but we’re excited to have an awesome game day experience at the concessions again.

Assessments 2/1/2020

*The age control date for is 4/30 of the current year during our spring season. So your player's age on 4/30/20 determines the league in which they play. An example would be you have a 12-year old that turns 13 on 3/5/20 – he would be considered a 13-year-old and would play in the Pony League, not Major.

Rookie (age 4): NO ASSESSMENTS

Teeball (age 5/6): George Pierce Park Field 2

Players last name A-H: 9am arrival

Players last name I-Z: 9:45am arrival

Peewee (age 7/8): George Pierce Park Field 3

Players last name A-M: 9am arrival

Players last name N-Z: 9:45am arrival

Minor (age 9/10): George Pierce Park Field 1

All players arrive at 9am

Major (age 11/12): George Pierce Park Field 5

All players arrive at 9am

Pony/Senior (age 13-18): NO ASSESSMENTS

Players should come equipped in baseball attire: Hat, pants, t-shirt/jersey, cleats (if you have them, tennis shoes are fine if not). They also need to have their helmet, bat, and glove. The individual assessments will not take more than a few minutes, but you may have to stand in line for a bit, waiting for your turn.

Season Information

*The below information does not apply to our Pony and Senior leagues. If your child plays in either of those leagues, expect separate communication from the league director, John Tornese, or your head coach.

Practices

After the skills assessment is complete, head coaches will draft teams early the following week. You can expect to hear from your coach by 2/6/2020. They will ask you to confirm uniform sizes and numbers as well as last name spelling. Your registration fee includes a hat, jersey, and socks. You’ll need to purchase pants, and a belt matched to the specification your head coach prefers.

Practices will begin the week of 2/10/2020. You can expect to practice twice per week until games start. We’re unable to commit to a specific date/time for each team until after registration is complete. That said, we can tell you that Teeball will NOT practice on Monday or Friday. Each league will likely have a Saturday practice but never on Sunday.

Games

We will start games Saturday, 3/7/2020, and you can expect to play two games per week. Since we play in the Suwanee Baseball League with Peachtree Ridge, you will play games at Peachtree Ridge Park in addition to George Pierce Park. There are two slots for weekday games: early (6pm) or late (7:30 – 7:50) depending on the league (we make every attempt to balance out the schedule so you don’t have to play a late game every week). You’ll also likely play each Saturday, although some weeks you could have two weekday games with nothing on Saturday, or nothing during the week and just one Saturday game.

All of the above is weather permitting. If we have a bunch of rainouts we may have to squeeze in a 3rd game; or, we might have to play on Sunday – both of which are rare.

After we conclude the regular season schedule of 12 games, we will hold a single-elimination tournament to determine the champion for each league (the trophies are awesome for that one).

It’s unlikely I’ve answered all the questions you may have, and if this is your first time playing with us you will most likely have more, but I’m confident your coach can guide you through the process once you’re placed on a team. Myself or Brent Halcomb, the NGBSA President, can also answer any questions you have. Additionally, each league has a director that will make themselves available to help with anything you need.

Thanks for trusting us with your baseball players – we’re looking forward to the fall season!

Call or text me if you need any questions answered.
